After intraperitoneal injection of K p-nitrophenyl sulfate-S35 (I) to male and female rats, the bulk of the S35 appears in the urine within 24 hrs. Up to 30% of the S35 of the original dose appears in the urine as inorganic sulfate-S35, most of the remainder appearing as ester sulfate-S35. Chromatographic examination of the urines shows the presence of at least 10 radioactive sulfate esters in addition to I. The chromatographic pattern is very similar to that obtained with the urines of rats receiving Na2S35O4 by intraperitoneal injection. After 48 hrs. the S35 is still present in the tissues. Incorporation of S35 into chondroitinsulfate of skin and cartilage and into liver taurine has been demonstrated.

Charged analytes such as organic sulfonic acids, sulfates, carboxylates, and phosphates are often analyzed by hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatog. (HILIC). In many cases, these analytes do not show any selectivity and elute near the dead time using the conventional acetonitrile-ammonium acetate buffers. In this work, we introduce a powerful selectivity enhancing technique by using a trace amount of Ba2+ ion in the mobile phase as a general approach for HILIC with UV-Vis detection. Silica and a newly developed material called geopolymers are used as stationary phases. Geopolymers are X-ray amorphous aluminosilicate inorganic polymers with cation exchange properties. Barium exchanged geopolymers (Ba-NM-GP) are synthesized from metakaolin based geopolymer. Thorough characterization of Ba-NM-GP is reported using SEM (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area analyzer and laser diffraction particle size distribution analyzer for the determination of their shape, size, porosity, surface area and particle size distribution resp. It is demonstrated that in the absence of Ba2+, baseline separations of sulfonates, carboxylates, and phosphates is not possible, whereas, in the presence of Ba2+ in the mobile phase, these analytes are easily separated Barium perchlorate is suggested as an additive for it is UV transparent, and it has practically an unlimited solubility in acetonitrile.

Two novel visible light photoinitiators 4-(10-methyl-10H-phenothiazin-3-yl) but-3-en-2-one (PBO) and (1E,4E)-1,5-bis(10-methyl-10H-phenothiazin-3-yl)-1,4-pentadien-3-one (BMPPO) were successfully designed and synthesized. PBO and BMPPO have broad absorption range from 350 to 500 nm with the maximum absorption wavelength at 400 nm and 440 nm resp. Three-component photoinitiating system of BMPPO/iodonium/amine was developed for free radical polymerization of acrylates. The results demonstrated that the photoinitiating system displayed rapid polymerization and high final vinyl group conversions under the irradiation of UV-LED (365 nm), blue LED (440) nm and solar light resource. Moreover, photopolymerization kinetics was studied by real-time FT-IR spectrum, the double band conversion was achieved up to 90% for BMPPO. The photocuring mechanism was identified via steady state photolysis and ESR spin-trapping experiments The possible photoinduced mechanism of PBO and BMPPO in the presence of a co-initiator occurred through electron transfer. In addition, BMPPO possesses rapid photobleaching and good biocompatibility performance tested by photoinduced degradation and cytotoxicity experiments resp., which exhibited that BMPPO has potential for light-color coatings and food packaging field.

Cases of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) caused by isobornyl acrylate (IBOA) in the Omnipod insulin pump have previously been reported. To present three cases of patients with ACD caused by a new allergen in the pump, and results from chem. analyses. Omnipod pumps from different batches were analyzed by gas chromatog.-mass spectrometry. Aimed testing, with the department’s medical device (MD) series and substances identified in the pump including dipropylene glycol diacrylate (DPGDA) at 0·01% and 0·1% in petrolatum (pet.), was performed. Patch testing also included extracts from the device, the adhesive patch as is, and allergens from baseline series. All patients tested pos. to 0·1% DPGDA in pet., and two patients addnl. to a 0·01% concentration DPGDA was found in extracts of the Omnipod pumps brought by the patients. An Omnipod pump from an earlier batch contained tripropylene glycol diacrylate, IBOA, N,N-dimethylacrylamide, di(ethylene glycol)ethyl ether acrylate (DEGEA) but no DPGDA. One of the patients reacted pos. to all of these allergens except DEGEA, which was not tested. When suspecting ACD to MDs, DPGDA at 0·1% in pet. should be tested. The contents of Omnipod have changed over time. Patch testing with updated test series and relevance assessment of pos. reactions is a delicate task. Children, with lifelong use of MDs, risk contracting many allergies with potential cross-allergies. A question should be raised as to whether these low mol. weight acrylates should be used at all in devices constantly worn on the skin.

Thanks to its strong X-ray absorption and large carrier diffusion length, perovskites have demonstrated excellent performance for X-ray detection. Combination of perovskite with thin-film transistor (TFT) arrays to construct flat-panel X-ray imager (FPXI) is required for X-ray imaging, yet this is rarely reported. Solution processing of perovskite thick film onto TFT can enable the electronic connection, however the amounts of pinholes inevitably form during the solvent evaporation and result in a porous film with deteriorated performance and stability. Here a novel strategy is raised to achieve high-quality perovskite thick films for TFT integration via soft-pressing and in situ polymerization of multi-functional binder (TMTA). The combined process largely eliminates the pinholes, improves the surface smoothness, passivates grains boundaries, reduces ionic migration, and improves stability. Accordingly, a compact and smooth MAPbI3 thick film integrating with TFT arrays is prepared for flat-panel X-ray imaging. The largest film (28 x 28 cm2) is obtained with the state-of-the-art performance (ratio of sensitivity to noise current: 1.41 x 1011 μC Gy-1 A-1) among polycrystalline films. It is hoped that the work provides guidance for fabricating compact perovskite thick films and push perovskite FPXI one step further for low-dose X-ray imaging.

The enzyme concentrate gave pH-activity and substrate concentration-activity curves which were very similar to those obtained previously with the stage B enzyme (loc. cit.). The ratio of the activities towards the 3 substrates under the resp. optimum conditions was 5.2 p-acetylphenyl (APS), 5.0 p-nitrophenyl (NPS), and 1.0 nitrocatechol (NCS) sulfates, calculated on a molar basis. When account was taken of the inhibition by excess of substrate and the true Vmaximum calculated the ratio became 15.1:14.4:1.0. The Michaelis constants, Km, for the 3 substrates were 9.0, 4.75, and 2.2 × 10-4M, resp. The heat of activation with NPS was 11 kcal./mol. Inhibition was obtained with the following substances at 0.025M: NaHSO3 17%, NaCN 82, NaHSO3 34, BaCl2 100, glucose 6-sulfate 17, K Et sulfate 12, Na benzenesulfonate 22, phenylhydrazine (0.0001 M) 87, hydrazine 43, semicarbazide 21, thiosemicarbazide 33, dimedone (0.05%, weight/volume) 27, Girards’ reagent P (2.5% weight/volume) 25, NH2OH 97. Inhibition by p-chloromercuribenzoic acid could not be reversed by cysteine or glutathione. 2,4-Dinitrofluorobenzene at 0.005M gave 100% inhibition. The curves obtained by plotting pKm against pH have shown the presence in the enzyme of 2 different substrate-binding groups: pK 8.2 and 9.4.
