Some novel quinazoline-ester derivatives I [R1 = MeO, EtO, i-PrO, BuO; R2 = 3-O2NC6H4] were then obtained by the reaction between the new compound I [R1 = H; R2 = 3-O2NC6H4] and various alcs. Then, quinazoline-amide derivatives I [R1 = H2N, n-PrNH, i-PrNH, PhNH, 4-H2NSO2C6H4NH; R2 = 3-O2NC6H4] were synthesized from the reaction of various amines and compound I [R1 = Cl; R2 = 3-O2NC6H4], obtained by the reaction of compound I [R1 = HO; R2 = 3-O2NC6H4] with SOCl2. Finally, some novel quinazoline-azo derivatives II [R3 = Me, Ph; R4 = Me, EtO] were synthesized by the coupling reaction between β-dicarbonyl compounds and the novel amino-quinazoline derivative compound I [R1 = n-PrNH; R2 = 3-H2NC6H4], obtained by reduction of nitro-quinazoline derivative compound I [R1 = n-PrNH; R2 = 3-O2NC6H4]. Thus, a new series of quinazoline-4-carboxylic acid, ester, amide and azo derivatives was synthesized and fully characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, IR and mass spectrometry anal.

Low permeability of microbial cells and mass transfer limitations are major problems for efficient whole-cell biocatalysis. In this work, a method for enhanced enantioselective synthesis of S-EHPP, an intermediate for antidepressant drug fluoxetine via Kluyveromyces lactis whole-cell-catalyzed reduction of Et benzoyl acetate (EBA) was developed by the integration of cell permeabilization and medium engineering. Intracellular EBA reductase of K. lactis was found to be growth associated enzyme and 3-day grown cells that showed the highest activity, were permeabilized by pretreating them with different permeabilizing agents. Among the permeabilizing agents tested, acetone was the most effective and improved the whole-cell activity by 1.7-fold. The medium engineering by the addition of iso-Pr alc. (IPA) further enhanced the reaction rate through increasing mass transfer. Therefore, the integration of cell permeabilization with acetone and medium engineering with IPA, enhanced the activity of whole-cells by 2.0-fold while maintaining S-EHPP enantiomeric excess (EE) of >99.5%. This integration approach led to a S-EHPP yield of 86% within 13 h while only a 70% yield was achieved after 24 h by using untreated cells in IPA free reaction medium. These results demonstrated that the developed method could be applied to improve the performance of other whole-cell biocatalysts.

The design and synthesis of twenty-two novel benzofuran-isatin-imine hybrids I [R1 = H, F, OCH3; X = (CH2)n; Y = NOCH3, NOC2H5, NNHC(S)NH2, NOH; R3 = H, OCH3, F; n = 1, 2, 3, 4] tethered through propylene, butylene, pentylene and hexylene, and for the evaluation of their in vitro anti-tubercular and anti-bacterial activities as well as cytotoxicity were reported. All benzofuran-isatin-imine hybrids exhibited considerable in vitro anti-TB (MIC: <0.016-0.218 μg/mL and 0.062-14.15 μg/mL against drug-sensitive and MDR MTB, resp.) and anti-bacterial (MIC: 0.25-64 μg/mL and 0.06-16 μg/mL against Gram-pos. and Gram-neg. strains, resp.) activities. All of them also showed acceptable cytotoxicity towards VERO (CC50: 8-128 μg/mL). The most active hybrid I (R1 = H; X = CH2CH2; Y = NOCH3; R3 = OCH3) (MIC: <0.016, 0.062 and 0.16 μg/mL, resp.) was >4.8 and >48 folds more potent than the first line anti-TB agents RIF and INH against both drug-sensitive MTB H37Rv and MDR-TB isolates, resp. Moreover, hybrid I (R1 = H; X = CH2CH2; Y = NOCH3; R3 = OCH3) also demonstrated promising anti-bacterial activities with MIC values of ≤1 μg/mL against the majority of the tested Gram-neg. and Gram-pos. pathogens, which was comparable to vancomycin (MIC: 0.5-4 μg/mL) and CPFX (MIC: 0.125-8 μg/mL) against Gram-pos. bacteria, but slightly less potent than CPFX (MIC: ≤0.03-0.5 μg/mL) against Gram-neg. bacteria. The results indicated that benzofuran-isatin-imine hybrids could act as candidates for the development of anti-TB and anti-bacterial agents.

The organic waste can be simultaneously recovered for the purpose of green synthesis. In the sustainable system, structurally diverse chiral alcs. are synthesized at a high substrate loading (>150 g L-1) without adding external coenzymes. Among these, about 780 g L-1 (6 M) Et acetoacetate is completely converted into Et (R)-3-hydroxybutyrate in only 2.5 h with 99.9% ee and 7488 g L-1 d-1 space-time yield. Mol. dynamics simulation results shed light on the high catalytic activity toward the substrate. Therefore, the high 2-propanol tolerance SmADH2 with the TBCR system proves to be a potent biocatalytic strategy for the synthesis of chiral alcs. on an industrial scale.

Nowadays, the evaluation of the quality of paocai is mainly relied on sensory assessment, which is expensive to implement, time-consuming, and sometimes cannot be implemented online for immediate feedback. By establishing the relationship between sensory quality and physicochem. properties of paocai, it is possible to build online feedback of paocai production by instrumental detections.

Programmatically assembling inorganic nanocrystals (NCs) into long-range-ordered superstructures has been well-documented as a theme to construct novel materials with unique properties. Herein, one-dimensional oriented self-assembly of core-shell structured rare-earth doped β-NaREF4 NCs is reported. In the epitaxial growth process, β-NaREF4 crystals featuring larger neg. lattice mismatch usually exhibited longitudinal growth preference. In this case, the lateral crystal of the hexagonal prisms would be etched by OA- ions along the direction parallel to the (001) facets. This anisotropic morphol. evolution can lead to the anisotropic noncovalent interactions between long-chain alkyls of oleic acid mols. and contribute to the oriented self-assembly in the 〈001〉 direction. On the basis of the studies on the heterogeneous NC self-assembly, a rare-earth nanohybrid assembly is further prepared by functionalizing the NC surface with a pH-responsive ligand N-(2-pyridinyl)benzoylacetamide (HPBA), and this nanohybrid self-assembly exhibits great potential in spatial-temporal dimensional optical encoding. This study provides a novel strategy based on selective crystal etching and epitaxial growth for oriented self-assembly of NCs and represents an important step toward the design of well-defined superstructures with unique properties.
