The present work offered a comprehensive investigation of engine characteristics of diesel engine driven with diesel and papaya seed oil Me ester (POME). The chem. compositions of POME were explored using FTIR and GC-MS anal. 1% of Di-tert-Bu Peroxide (DTBP) and Pyrogallol (PY) were used as ignition promoters with POME for achieving improved cetane number and enhanced ignition. In order to utilize the maximum available energy in the fuel thermal barrier coating was attempted. Partially Stabilized Zirconia coating on combustion chamber components leads to diminished heat loss from engine. The aim of the present experimentation was to analyze the consequence of papaya seed oil biodiesel with presence of ignition promoter in coated and uncoated engine characteristics. In PSZ coated engine, POME and PY blend showed 3.15% of increased thermal efficiency with 2.17% of declined fuel consumption. Reduced emissions were noticed with POME and PY blend in PSZ coated engine. Superior combustion efficiency, in-cylinder pressure, heat release rate and combustion duration were witnessed with POME and PY blend in coated engine due to short ignition delay. The practice of using ignition promoter-treated biodiesel in thermally coated engine was said to be the prominent method for achieving enhanced engine characteristics.

This study attempted to chem. modify MR using the oxidation of peracetic acid, resulting that the MR hydrophilicity was significantly improved, and a water-soluble product (WSP) was obtained. The optimized oxidation conditions of MR, including the reaction temperature (X1), reaction time (X2), weight ratio of oxidant and montan resin (X3), and oxidant concentration (X4), were determined using single-factor experiments and response surface anal. The modification degree was evaluated using elemental and oil-water partition coefficient analyses, IR (IR) spectroscopy, and gas chromatog.-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), revealing that the oil-water partition coefficient of the modified product decreased and that the number of chem. constituents with oxygen-containing functional groups clearly increased after modification. Furthermore, the WSP was tested its effects on germination and seedling growth of the wheat seed. Compared with the control group, the WSP showed a promoting effect on the growth and germination of wheat. The WSP concentrations of 600 mg·L-1 and 300 mg·L-1 had the most substantial effect on the root and seedling growth of wheat, resp.

Knowledge of the type and level of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids in food and clin. matrixes is of practical importance, but the wide variety of fatty acids makes analyses very complex. The discrimination of the geometric isomers of fatty acid needs proper and effective separation conditions. The efficiency of three different stationary phases was evaluated by GC-MS methods in the separation of fatty acids in their Me ester forms. Significant differences were observed in the efficiencies of polysiloxane-based (non-polar HP-5MS and medium/high polarity DB-225MS) and ionic liquid-based (SLB-IL111) columns. Baseline separation of the geometric isomers of linoleic acid Me ester was obtained by the extremely polar SLB-IL111 column, showing a preference over the other two columns. The optimization of the exptl. conditions (response linearity, limit of detection, limit of quantification, system suitability, intraday and interday repeatability and accuracy) showed the separation power of the ionic liquid interaction in the analyses by using short (25-30 m long) columns. By deducting the general principles of the interaction, predictions can be made for the separation of other isomers. The results facilitate the precise identification of various types of fatty acids in real samples for nutritional information.

As important factors to oolong tea quality, the accumulation and dynamic change in aroma substances attracts great attention. The volatile composition of oolong tea is closely related to the precursor contents. Fatty acids (FAs) and their derivatives are basic components of oolong tea fragrance during the postharvest process. However, information about the precursors of FAs during the postharvest process of oolong tea production is rare. To investigate the transformation of fatty acids during the process of oolong tea production, gas chromatograph-flame ionization detection (GC-FID) was conducted to analyze the composition of FAs. The results show that the content of total polyunsaturated FAs initially increased and then decreased. Specifically, the contents of α-linolenic acid, linoleic acid and other representative substances decreased after the turn-over process of oolong tea production The results of partial least squares discrimination anal. (PLS-DA) showed that five types of FAs were obviously impacted by the processing methods of oolong tea (VIP > 1.0). LOX (Lipoxygenase, EC 1.13.11.12) is considered one of the key rate-limiting enzymes of long-chain unsaturated FAs in the LOX-HPL (hydroperoxide lyase) pathway, and the mech. wounding occurring during the postharvest process of oolong tea production greatly elevated the activity of LOX.

Et acetate extract of the bark was triturated with warm nhexane and warm n-hexane fractions were pooled in order to get Holoptelea integrifolia Bark-Ehyl Acetate-Hexane Soluble (HIB-EAHS) which was analyzed on GC-MS. The identified fatty acids and fatty acid esters included: octadecanoicacid, Me ester (1), hexadecanedioic acid, di-Me ester (2), eicosanoic acid, methylester (3), octadecanedioic acid, di-Me ester (4), Cis-13-eicosenoic acid (5), docosanoicacid, Me ester (6), 1,2-benzenedicarboxylicacid, diisooctyl ester (7), methyl- 21-methyldocosanoate (8), and tetracosanoicacid, Me ester (9). Not any saturated fatty acid was found in the present study. A number of fatty acids and fatty acid esters have been identified from the stem extract of H. integrifolia but these fatty acids and fatty acid esters were identified the first time from the bark of the plant.

The goal of the present study was the evaluation of the fatty acid profile of lipid fraction from dry common beans Phaseolus vulgaris harvested from North-East and South-West of Romania and to protect against thermal and oxidative degradation of the contained omega-3 and omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid glycerides by β-cyclodextrin nanoencapsulation, using kneading method. The most abundant FAs in the CBO samples were PUFAs, according to gas chromatog.-mass spectrometry anal. The omega-3/omega-6 ratio consistently exceeds the lower limit value of 0.2, from where the PUFA glyceride mixture is valuable for the human health. Attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform IR spectroscopy anal. reveals the formation of the β-CD/CBO inclusion complexes by restricting the vibration and bending of some bonds from the host and guest mols. The SFA content increased, while the unsaturated FA glycerides had lower relative concentrations in the encapsulated CBO samples. The overall unsaturated FA content significantly decreased after complexation. On the other hand, the omega-3/omega-6 ratio increased by β-CD nanoencapsulation to 0.51 and 0.76 for β-CD/CBO-NE and β-CD/CBO-SW complexes, resp. As a conclusion, the lipid fractions of the Romanian common beans are good candidates for β-CD complexation and they can be protected against thermal and oxidative degradation in common beans based food products such as functional foods or food supplements using natural CDs.

Nearly 30 varieties of banana (Musa spp.) are grown in Sri Lanka while it is the most produced and traded fruit in fresh form in the world. In the present study, five banana varieties commonly grown in Sri Lanka were evaluated for their nutritional composition Fruits were collected using stratified random sampling design from all agro-climatic zones, sorted and cleaned. Composite samples were prepared by oven drying a portion of the sample at 45°C while the rest was freeze-dried. Proximate composition, fatty acid profile and vitamin composition were determined using standard procedures and presented on fresh weight basis. Total carbohydrate, protein and dietary fiber contents of studied banana varieties were 13.46-26.46, 0.14-0.2 and 1.97-2.49%, resp. Major fatty acids observed in Musa spp. were palmitic, linoleic, α-linolenic, oleic, stearic, palmitoleic and myristic acids. Vitamin A and E contents were higher than other fat-soluble vitamins. Among studied banana varieties, the nutritional significance of Puwalu was upheld by the highest quantities of fat-soluble vitamins and polyunsaturated fatty acids while the nutritional significance of Kolikuttu was upheld by the highest quantities of protein, dietary fiber, thiamine and riboflavin. Ambul kesel was observed to contain the highest vitamin C content among studied banana varieties.

In addition, neutral lipids and vital fatty acids proportion increased at high lipid productive conditions enabled by polysorbate supplementation.

In this study, fatty acid compositions of apricot kernel oils for cosmetic purpose were analyzed. Qual. and quant. anal. of fatty acids in apricot kernel oils were made by using gas chromatog.-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). In this anal., apricot kernel oils -which trademarked Karden, Organix and Biovitalssupplied from a herbalist were used. The oils were converted to the Me ester with KOH hydrolysis. Just after the derivatization process, the oils were analyzed by GC-MS. In conclusion, it was determined that these apricot kernel oils which belong to three different trademarks have a similar fatty acid profile, however, there was no specific standard between them.

Colloidal organic matter is an important factor in our understanding of the transport of trace metals by rivers to coastal areas and the characteristics of organic matter in the sediment, including the effect of humic substances on the transport of such metals. The structural features of humic acids (HAs) derived from surface sediments collected from the mouths of four rivers in northwest Hokkaido, Japan, were evaluated from the perspective of land use in their basins. The sediments in two rivers (referred to as NS and SK) were lacking in HAs, but the sediments of the others (referred to as SM and PO) contained relatively high levels of HAs. UV-vis spectroscopic characteristics suggested that the HAs in SM and PO contained components derived from humified materials. The PO and SM basins contain rice paddy fields, and TMAH-py-GC/MS anal. showed that the pyrograms of paddy soil HA had a similar character to those of PO-HA and SM-HA samples. Thus, the differences of the structural features can be attributed to the land use in river basins. The findings indicate that the properties of organic river sediments are heavily influenced by the type of land use in the river basins.
