Yoshie, Kensuke;Yada, Shuichi;Ando, Shuichi;Ishihara, Kazuhiko research published 《 Chemical Structural Effects of Amphipathic and Water-soluble Phospholipid Polymers on Formulation of Solid Dispersions》, the research content is summarized as follows. For the polymeric carriers of solid dispersions, it is important that carriers themselves dissolve quickly and maintain the supersaturated state of amorphous drugs during their dissolution period to improve bioavailability. Amphipathic 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine (MPC) polymers can be dissolved in water, owing to the extremely high hydrophilicity of the MPC units, and are used as an ideal feeder for drug mols. to form aggregates in aqueous conditions. We synthesized amphipathic MPC copolymers with different hydrophobic side chains and molar ratios of MPC units, and evaluated the effect of the polymers on dissolution rate and supersaturation maintenance of solid dispersions of indomethacin. In most of the water-soluble amphipathic MPC copolymers, “spring-parachute”-like dissolution behavior was observed, where the drug initially became supersaturated followed by slow precipitation In particular, MPC copolymers with aromatic rings in their side chains or polymers with a high percentage of hydrophobic units remained in a supersaturated state for a longer period. In contrast, urethane groups, which form hydrogen bonds with drug mols., could also interact with water and were not conducive to maintaining supersaturation In addition, water solubility of the polymer is important for rapid dissolution

A facile ultrasonication induced atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) mediated via piezoelec. heterostructure was developed. ZnO/BaTiO3 heterostructure was prepared by in-situ deposition of zinc precursor on BaTiO3 particles followed by high temperature annealing. Under ultrasonic activation, as-synthesized piezoelec. ZnO/BaTiO3 heterostructure with an elevated macroscopic polarization could facilitate piezoelec. induced electron-hole pairs with more efficient separation and transfer, leading to the enhanced piezocatalytic in controlled living polymerization High efficiency of ultrasonication mediated ATRP of Me methacrylate (MMA) by ZnO/BaTiO3 heterostructure about 63.1% conversion was achieved under 4 h ultrasonic agitation, providing PMMA homopolymer with well-defined mol. weight, narrow mol. dispersity and high end-group fidelity. Furthermore, implications of CuBr2/TPMA concentrations, piezoelec. materials, ZnO/BaTiO3 heterostructure loading and distinct monomer were systematically investigated. Process of ultrasonication-mediated ATRP could be readily controlled by ultrasound switch on/off. The versatility of ultrasonication-mediated ATRP system was further verified by the preparation of star-like polymer. The ability of transfer piezoelec.-induced electrons from ZnO/BaTiO3 heterostructure to CuBr2/TPMA and nature of ZnO/BaTiO3 heterostructure were investigated to reveal the mechanism of ultrasonication mediated ATRP.

Conventional reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) emulsion polymers contain sulfur residues and low-molar-mass surfactants that contribute to undesired odor and deleterious effects of final materials. Herein, we show how living polymer chains obtained by catalytic chain transfer polymerization of surface-active monomers allyloxy polyoxyethylene(10)nonyl ammonium sulfate and Me methacrylate can be used as an efficient stabilizer in sulfur-free RAFT (SF-RAFT) emulsion polymerization, resulting in soap-free latexes. The reactive surfactant concentration could decrease to 0.8 weight % in the final emulsion; meanwhile, the resultant latexes show good colloidal stability with an average particle size ranging from 110 to 135 nm. Furthermore, semibatch SF-RAFT emulsion polymerization results in a well-controlled polymerization process, as evidenced by the smooth increase in mol. weight of polymer chains as the polymerization progressed. It is also apparent from the chain extension experiments that the SF-RAFT emulsion polymerization of methacrylic monomers exhibits a living characteristic.

Yang, Cheng-Lin;Zhong, Feng;Pan, Cai-Yuan;Zhang, Wen-Jian;Hong, Chun-Yan research published 《 Influence of solvent on the RAFT-mediated polymerization of benzyl methacrylate and how to overcome the thermodynamic/kinetic limitation of morphology evolution during polymerization-induced self-assembly》, the research content is summarized as follows. Polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA) has been demonstrated to be a powerful strategy to produce polymeric nano-objects of various morphologies. Dependent on the solubility of monomers, PISA is usually classified into two formulations as dispersion polymerization or emulsion polymerization, which may undergo quite different processes of polymerization and morphol. transition. Generally, chain propagation of the solvophobic blocks will induce the morphol. transition of the nano-objects from spherical micelles to higher order morphologies. However, the limitation of morphol. evolution is often observed during PISA, and how to overcome the trapped spherical micelles obviously depends on case-by-case anal. Herein, RAFT-mediated PISA of benzyl methacrylate in different formulations is investigated by varying the solvent composition The polymerization kinetics, nucleation, and morphol. transitions are quite different between these different PISA formulations. The entrapped spherical micelles at ethanol/water = 7/3 (weight/weight) are determined by thermodn. factors, and morphol. transition can be achieved by using a shorter solvophilic polymer as the macro-RAFT agent, while the spherical micelles obtained at ethanol/water = 3/7 (weight/weight) are kinetically trapped, which can be overcome by copolymerization of some other monomers to improve the flexibility of solvophobic blocks. This work is promising as it provides a principle to overcome the limitations of morphol. evolution in different cases and develops the design for formulations of PISA.

Wen, Shang-Pin;Fielding, Lee A. research published 《 Pyridine-functional diblock copolymer nanoparticles synthesized via RAFT-mediated polymerization-induced self-assembly: effect of solution pH》, the research content is summarized as follows. Polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA) via reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization has become widely recognized as a versatile and efficient strategy to prepare complex block copolymer nanoparticles with controlled morphol., size, and surface functionality. In this article, we report the preparation of cationic sterically-stabilized poly(2-vinylpyridine)-poly(benzyl methacrylate) (P2VP-PBzMA) diblock copolymer nanoparticles via RAFT-mediated PISA under aqueous emulsion polymerization conditions. It is demonstrated that the solution pH during PISA has a dramatic effect on the resulting P2VP-PBzMA nanoparticles, as judged by dynamic light scattering (DLS), disk centrifuge photosedimentometry (DCP) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Varying the solution pH results in the P2VP stabilizer having different solubilities due to protonation/deprotonation of the pyridine groups. This allows P2VP-PBzMA nanoparticles with tunable diameters to be prepared by altering the DP of the stabilizer (P2VP) and/or core-forming block (PBzMA), or simply by changing the solution pH for a fixed copolymer composition For example, P2VP-PBzMA nanoparticles with larger diameters can be obtained at higher solution pH as the protonation degree of the P2VP stabilizer has a large effect on both the aggregation of polymer chains during the PISA process, and the resulting behavior of the diblock copolymer nanoparticles. Changing the dispersion pH post-polymerization has a relatively limited effect on particle diameter Furthermore, aqueous electrophoresis studies indicate that these P2VP-PBzMA nanoparticles had good colloidal stability and high cationic charge (>30 mV) below pH 5 and can be dispersed readily over a wide pH range.

Wen, Shang-Pin;Trinh, Elisabeth;Yue, Qi;Fielding, Lee A. research published 《 Physical Adsorption of Graphene Oxide onto Polymer Latexes and Characterization of the Resulting Nanocomposite Particles》, the research content is summarized as follows. Polymer/graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposite particles were prepared via heteroflocculation between 140-220 nm cationic latex nanoparticles and anionic GO nanosheets in either acidic or basic conditions. It is demonstrated that nanocomposite particles can be formed using either poly(2-vinylpyridine)-b-poly(benzyl methacrylate) (P2VP-PBzMA) block copolymer nanoparticles prepared by reversible-addition chain-transfer (RAFT)-mediated polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA), or poly(ethylene glycol)methacrylate (PEGMA)-stabilized P2VP latexes prepared by traditional emulsion polymerization These two latexes are different morphol. as the P2VP-PBzMA block copolymer latexes have P2VP steric stabilizer chains in their corona, whereas the PEGMA-stabilized P2VP particles have a P2VP core and a nonionic steric stabilizer. Nevertheless, both the P2VP-PBzMA and PEGMA-stabilized P2VP latexes are cationic at low pH. Thus, the addition of GO to these latexes causes flocculation to occur immediately due to the opposite charges between the anionic GO nanosheets and cationic latexes. Control heteroflocculation experiments were conducted using anionic sterically stabilized poly(potassium 3-sulfopropyl methacrylate)-b-poly(benzyl methacrylate) (PKSPMA-PBzMA) and nonionic poly(benzyl methacrylate) (PBzMA) nanoparticles to demonstrate that polymer/GO nanocomposite particles were not formed. The degree of flocculation and the strength of electrostatic interaction between the cationic polymer latexes and GO were assessed using disk centrifuge photosedimentometry (DCP), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and UV-visible spectrophotometry. These studies suggest that the optimal conditions for the formation of polymer/GO nanocomposite particles were GO contents between 10% and 20% weight/weight relative to latex, with the latexes containing P2VP in their corona having a stronger electrostatic attraction to the GO sheets.

Acridone as a new kind of visible light photocatalyst has been developed to catalyze metal free atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The photocatalyst possess low excited state potential as can undergo an oxidative quenching pathway to initiate ATRP of vinyl monomers. Kinetic study and light on/off reaction demonstrate the “living”/controlled nature of the polymerization by light. Block copolymers can be achieved by using PMMA as macroinitiator to reinitiate polymerization of other vinyl monomers, which shows highly preserved Br chain-end functionality in the synthesized polymers. Moreover, the polymerization can be conducted under air atm. as most photocatalysts need anaerobic condition, which may give inspiration of further application of this kind of photocatalyst.

Resin wettability was found to be the factor most predictive of adhesive strength between thermosetting elastomers and glass surfaces, with increasing wettability (decreasing resin contact angle) correlated with increasing interfacial fracture energy. This finding provides a convenient and fast method to screen polymer networks and enables informed tailoring of interfacial fracture energy.

2495-37-6, Benzyl methacrylate, also known as Benzyl methacrylate, is a useful research compound. Its molecular formula is C11H12O2 and its molecular weight is 176.21 g/mol. The purity is usually 95%.
Benzyl methacrylate is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of benzyl compounds. It has a copolymer structure with methyl ethyl methacrylate (MEMA) and hydroxyl groups. Benzyl methacrylate is produced by polymerization of benzyl chloride with allyl carbonate in the presence of radiation, forming a polymeric matrix. The morphology of this copolymer depends on the length of the benzyl chains and the concentration of MEMA., Formula: C11H12O2
