Four benzyl-protected carbohydrates (3 a-3 d) were obtained by the reactions towards five steps of acetylation, Et thiolation, deacetylation, benzylation and hydrolysis, using D-galactose, D-mannose, D-xylose and D-lactose as starting materials. The total yields of four target compounds were 27.2%, 23.1%, 15.7% and 35.4%, resp. The structures were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR and MS.
