The IR spectra of 2-ethylhexyl benzoate (as a model lubricant) was studied at pressures between ambient and 30 kilobars at 293 K in a diamond anvil cell. The ν(C=O) vibrational band profile reflected the effects of both attractive and repulsive potentials through changes in the 1st moment (frequency shift) and dephasing rate (bandwidth).
