The product contained 87% (GC purity) of dimethyl 2-[(2E)-3-chloro-2-propenyl]-2-isopropylmalonate and at most 0.5% (measured by GC) of isopropyl bromide, but did not contain the Z-isomer. 1HNMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): 0.98 (d, 6H, J=6.76), 2.31 (m, 1H), 2.62 (dd, 2H, J=1.16, 7.64), 3.73 (s, 6H), 5.89 (dt, 1H, J=7.60, 13.19), 6.01 (dt, 1H, J=1.16, 13.19). 13CNMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): 18.33, 32.41, 35.14, 51.94, 62.06, 119.83, 128.87, 170.66.
