E.g., the thiazoline I (R = H) and the pyridine II (R = H) with BuLi and PhCHO gave homologs I and II [R = CH(OH)Ph] which with base gave thiiranes III (R = H, Ph, resp.). Similarly, Et2NCS2CH2Ph with LiN(CHMe2)2 and EtCHO gave, after treatment with NaH, III (R = Et).
