A palladium-catalyzed nondirected fluorinated olefination was developed. The oxalyl amide ligand greatly improved the yield of the reaction. A wide variety of isatin derivatives were well tolerated and yielded the corresponding (fluoroalkenyl)isatins I [R1 = H, 6-Me, 4-Cl, etc.; R2 = CF2CF2Br, CO2CH2CF3, C6F5, etc.; R3 = Me, Et, n-Pr, i-Pr; X = O, N(OMe), N(Ot-Bu)] in moderate to good yields.
