The Wolff rearrangement of α-diazo ketones to esters with MeOH and Ag2O gives erratic results. BzOAg (1 g.) in 9.1 g. NEt3 with the diazo ketone in MeOH works much better. The basic properties of NEt3 seem important, as F3CCO2Ag in C6H6 did not react. The reaction can be inhibited by a solution of hydroquinone.
