To 3- methylamino-but-2-enoic acid methyl ester (5.Og, 39.1mmol) in THF (7OmL) was added pyridine (3.7mL). The mixture was cooled to O0C, and 4-bromobenzoyl chloride (8.55g, 39.1mmol) in THF (3OmL) was added dropwise over 2 minutes.
