To a solution of methyl 2-(4-bromophenyl)acetate (1 g, 4.36 mmol) in dry THF (20 mL)was added LiHMDS (5.23 mL, 1 M) dropwise at -78 C under N2. The mixture was stirred at 0C for 2 h.
