A suspension of methyl (4-bromo-2-fluorophenyl)acetate (5.5 g, 0.0223 mol; see step (v) above), Zn(CN)2 (1.79 g, 0.0156 mol) in dry DMF (30 mL) was purged with argon for 15 minutes before Pd(PPh3)4 (1.27 g, 0.0011 mol) was added.
